MADMAN JESUS

Jesus—madman? What if true?
What would it change for me or you?
We all imagine selves to be
Unrecognized divinity.
He took it step too far, but then
He saved us all from that small sin
Of stepping out there on that limb,
Declaring self as Son of Man.
So his limbs got nailed to tree,
And we all say he “died for me.”
He did, because if he had blanched
Each one of us might well have chanced
To be the madman to declare
We die for all men everywhere.
Which is sane, and which is mad—
Being God, or being had?
